Photography "done by ear, feeling, and instinct,
...not by rule."
Born and raised in the South Bay area of southern California Kat moved to the Temecula Valley area in 1988.
With a love of music and a major in photography Kat formed El-Ey Promotinal in 1997 with her husband and professional musician. Together they worked and supported the local music scene until his passing in 2006. Kat after that kept the business going but concentrated more on live performance photography and found herself frequently on the road as the "go-to" gal for many southern California bands and musicians photographing people and places or wherever the music would take her. Her photos have been used in various music artist profiles, and her fine art photography has been used in several publications and websites.
Adding to her experience at that time she was asked to be a speaker on several music panels, including the Indie Entertainment Summit held in North Hollywood, and the "New Artist Marketing" panel at the L.A. Rock n Roll Conference in Hollywood, and a regular guest on Guy Towe's Relevant Music and Muse on LA Talk Radio. She has been affiliated with many music organizations, most notably with LAWIM (Los Angeles Women in Music), Temecula Valley Music Awards, Your Music Out Loud International Songwriting Contest, 411Gina Missing Persons songwriting contest, and the formation of the Temecula Valley chapter of Balanced Breakfast music meetup group, plus many others.
CHORDS, VINES, and DINES
In September 2013 Kat Ellis formed her own radio talk show called Chords and Vines with local musician Joe Mullenix. Chords and Vines ran for six years. The show began with a simple concept...showcase some of the best musical artists and pair their music to wines or brews from several award winning wineries or breweries. The broadcast gave many musicians the opportunity to have their music heard in areas where they wouldn't normally be heard, thus creating increased fan base, sales, employment, music and writing collaborations, etc. The show also introduces wines and brews to new enthusisants and potential club members. In 2022 the show was relaunched under the name of Chords, Vines, and Dines to include foods and dining but the show is so much more. Kat Ellis is the host with international food, wine, and travel writer Tom Plant as cohost and photographer Gaea Norvell is Executive Producer.
Broadcast location is primarily at the El-Ey Promo Creative Studio in Wildomar CA but ocassionally go on location to recording studios, restaurants, wineries, breweries, festivals, and music and wine trade shows including the prestigious Winter-NAMM Show in Anaheim California, LA WineFest, San Diego Food and Wine Festival, etc. Music guests on the show ranged from local artists to music industry legends.
SASSY MAMA'S MUSTARDS and MORE
The wheels are always spinning with Kat and in 2015 while in a meeting with a winery owner discussing an event at his winery the comment was made about wishing there was a local mustard company. Kat thought about that comment for a few days and thought "why not?" Thus became the beginning of Sassy Mama's Mustard. It started as a part time business but during the pandemic lock down in 2020 gave her time to create and expand and now includes fruit butters, chutneys, relishes, hummus, and more. With five young grandsons (a sixth on the way) and a full time caregiver for a longtime diabetic friend, Kat has worked on eliminating refined sugars in the fruit butters using keto friendly Monkfruit and is working on eliminating refinded sugars in the chutneys and relishes as well. With the popularity of all of Sassy Mama's all natural products Sassy Mama's has rapidly became another full time business.
Kat is a memeber of several marketing and networking groups most notably GFSE Globel Society of Female Entrepreneurs. Shes also a member of the Temecula Valley Wine Society and Temecula Valley Wine Connoisseurs, and an Associate Artist at the Dorland Art Colony.

"Okay, I'm officially saying it...Kat Ellis is the photographer version of the Harlem Globetrotters! She can twist, turn, jump, pivot, sway and breakdance all while holding her camera and getting a GREAT shot every time."

“Kat has photographed our most important events. Her work is truly professional and creative. She is also totally dependable, trustworthy and goes above and beyond to make the project all it can be and more. We have become very good friends and I hope to work with her as often as possible.”
---Judy Lamppu, Vice President, COSMO Coalition of Songwriter & Music Organizations

"I have seen the imagery and life that Kat brings out in each snap of the camera that they are of a quality up there with the best of them. No doubt when she retires, she'll have her own museum to show the world a reminder that there is a connection between the eye and the camera lens where in between, a photograph has to have a soul behind it."
--- Pavel Sfera (musician)
